AUSTIN (KXAN) – Go outside. That’s the message behind YETI’s new billboard, sending rockets full of shadows at billionaire Elon Musk.

The Austin-based company put a bright new billboard in front of its downtown Austin store. The message sends waves that read – “See Space. Save billions. ”The ad shows a tent on a mountainside under the night sky. The company told Insider that it was inspired by the Billionaire Space Race.

The world has watched as Elon Musk of Space X, Jeff Bezos of Blue Origin, and Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic battle to be the first in space exploration. Instead of trying to travel to the universe, the cooler manufacturer says – just go outside, it’s cheaper.

“With SpaceX and Tesla and everyone trying to get from Texas to Mars, we love the outdoors and there’s a lot of space out there,” Paulie Dery, vice president of marketing at Yeti, told Insider. “There’s a lot of the world on this planet and we think it’s pretty special and won’t cost you billions.”

The Lone Star State has played a huge role in the country’s space exploration. In a recent report, KXAN learned that to see what’s actually out there isn’t necessarily curiosity – it’s cash.

Texas companies play a huge role in fueling the space race

Elon Musk has relocated much of his SpaceX operations to South Texas, Jeff Bezos has Blue Origin in Van Horn near El Paso, and a number of space technology startups with combined venture capital totaling $ 6 billion continue to grow.

YETI has used a playful marketing approach before. Previous billboards featured actor Matthew McConaughey and jokes about Californians.
