The number of available job postings in the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area rose 49% in October from October 2020, according to a November 10 report by the Austin Chamber of Commerce.
During the October monthly reporting period, Sept. 14th through Oct. 13th, that is 1,500 more than the previous monthly reporting period and 30,000 more than October 2020. Of these vacancies, 15% were managerial jobs and 14% were computing and math jobs , reflecting strong demand for senior talent and tech talent, the report said. There were 30,000 new online initial postings, job postings that were published for the first time in the measured period, which is 2,000 fewer than in the previous month.
The surge in job openings from the September to October report isn’t surprising, but what’s noteworthy is the high number of vacancies available across the subway, Kwee Lan Teo, vice president of talent development for the Austin Chamber of Commerce, told Community Impact Newspaper.
“The number of job postings available in October 2021 and also last month is significant, and is now over 90,000,” said Teo. “The new job postings haven’t changed that much that employers may still be looking for jobs.” Their current available jobs [metro] The unemployment rate is at 3.5% in September 2021 and companies are starting to offer higher hourly wages and bonuses to attract candidates. “
