The unofficial start to summer began with the season opener for the Pfarmers Markt.

The market, which usually takes place at the Heritage House, will be held at the Pflugerville First United Methodist Church due to construction on Old Austin Hutto Road.

“The site was last minute but we knew we wanted it somewhere near downtown Pflugerville and when we worked with the church it became a win-win for everyone as the church was numerous Has parking and people associate our site with the church, “said Eddie Garcia, Pfarmers Market Manager. “Hopefully we’ll be back at Heritage Park for the 2022 season, but for now we’ll do everything we can to make the most of it.”

Despite the recent rain that Pflugerville received, Garcia said the crowd has been slowly getting better each week since the resumption in May.

“The first day we opened, the rain and wind blew away some of the canopies, but now the weather is turning, more people are coming to visit us,” said Garcia.

The providers offer a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, vegetables and herbs, nuts and dried fruits. The market also offers artisanal baked goods, honey, plants, eggs, free-range meat, salsas, pickles, and jams.

“Anything you can think of, we have it,” said Garcia.

Vendors at Pfarmers Markt offer a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, vegetables and herbs, nuts and dried fruits. The market also sells artisanal baked goods, honey, plants, eggs, free-range meat, salsas, pickles and jams.

Chris Van Calster, owner of ATX Homemade Jerky & Artisan Market, said customers are very grateful to be back on the market.

“It really makes them happier to be out, support local and buy fresh produce, especially since grocery stores sold out twice in the past year,” said Calster. “People have missed meeting and enjoying the company of others around them and who better to be around than your community.”

Sarah Kesigner, owner of Crimson Cactus, where she makes handcrafted jewelry, soy candles, and ceramics, said she’s been a seller in the town’s market for seven years.

“Since this year’s market is at Pflugerville First United Methodist Church, there is plenty of room in the parking lot for vendors to make adequate space and plenty of shopping,” said Kesigner. “I’m excited to be showing some of the new items I’m making this year.”

When the pandemic broke out last year, Kesigner said she switched gears and started making fabric face masks that were sold for last year’s market season.

“I started selling on Etsy, and while market visits were low, there were these loyal market-goers who came every week despite the pandemic,” Kesigner said.

Kesigner said she is looking forward to a larger number of visitors to the new location for this year’s market season.

“Now that things are slowly returning to a somewhat normal lifestyle, we expect market-goers to return to normal too,” said Kesigner. “Especially when the market is outside, many buyers and sellers feel more comfortable shopping in the open air than in a store.”

Garcia said that prior to the city’s takeover in 2006, the market was run by the municipality.

“The market originally started in the parking lot between the church and El Rincon in the early 2000s, and now we’re back in the same area,” he said. “When people started figuring out where we were this year, they said to me, ‘Wow, you’re back!’ but really – we never left, we’re just back in the same place where it all started. “

The market takes place every Tuesday through October 26th from 3pm to 7pm. You can find more information about Pfarmers Market at pflugervilletx.gov/for-visitors/pfarmers-market.
