Philly cheesesteak sandwiches rule at San Antonio food truck G&J Treats, which also has Buffalo chicken wings

[ad_1]

G&J Treats started in 2019 as an ice cream truck that used to roam the neighborhoods of San Antonio. But that got bored of Guy Auguste, who started the business with his wife Jeanette.

Guy wanted to switch to cheesesteaks, chicken wings, and fries and started doing so in March, although the truck still sells paletas in eight flavors and ice cream staples like bomb pops, screwballs, and a choco taco.

G&J often hosts events, but the truck is regularly parked on Saturdays or Sundays at the StreetFare SA Food Truck Park on the 1916 Austin Highway.

Best dish: The G&J Texas Cheesesteak ($ 13.95) adds heaps of grilled jalapeño strips and onions for a flavorful Texas twist to a classic cheesesteak with a generous pile of meat smothered in so much bright orange cheese sauce that it is like looks like an accident in a paint factory. Somehow the bun, crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and bready on the inside, kept everything in check.

The cheese sauce can be added to fries as a side dish for $ 1, and since you’re already wasting your calories with the sandwich, I say go for it.

Other dishes: The traditional Philly ($ 13) has minced steak and grilled onions, a layer of provolone that hugs everything tighter than Rocky hugged Adrian.

Buffalo Chicken Wings come in mild and spicy, or you can get the wings just plain ($ 9 for six or $ 14.95 for 12). While it would be nice to have more options, G&J is all about simplicity. Chicken wings have been in short supply lately, but they weren’t thin minis and there were tons of plump bones.

The mild wings were only slightly spicy and the classic Frank’s RedHot sauce. Customers who really want to feel the burning of hot wings will be disappointed; the hot buffalo does not deliver the clout the name promises. Apart from the deeper red color, I couldn’t see much difference to the mild option.

I would eat these sandwiches again and again. But if I felt like having wings, I’d rather fly to another co-op with a larger selection.
