The South Pittsburg Pirates were back on duty Friday night looking to recover from a heartbreaking loss to Dade County last week. The Pirates fired from all cylinders from the first second and got a dominant 42-0 win over the Roadrunners of Austin-East Magnet High School.
The Roadrunners won the coin toss and settled on the second half. At kick-off, the ball landed in the hands of De’Andre Kelly, who blew past the defenders and carried him over 70 yards into the end zone of the game.
Keown would make it big at the Pirates kickoff and the Roadrunners returner would find a lane, but Keown was able to save the touchdown and score a big hit that sent the Roadrunner out.
The Pirates defense started strong as it prevented the Roadrunners from capitalizing on the great field position. A sack of Josiah Huntley in third place forced fourth and sixth places and the pressure again forced incompleteness resulting in a turnover on the downs.
It didn’t take long for the pirate offensive to get rolling as Richard Hunter delivered a 16-yard pass on the first game in the offense, which was overtaken by Ra’Cash Kelly. A few games later, it was Hunter who fell back again and delivered a dime, this time it was his twin brother Reginald who brought it in for a 36-yard profit and brought the Pirates to the 25-yard line. The Twins scored again in 3rd and 12th places to get the ball on the three-yard line and De’Andre Kelly pounded it in to give the Pirates an early 14-0 lead.

The smoke from the pre-game fireworks had barely cleared when De’Andre Kelly gave the Pirates their first points of the game and skipped the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Pirates found their way back to the end zone, this time after a 37-yard pass from Hunter caught by Keshaun Hill. The Pirates defense would cause serious problems for the roadrunners in this neighborhood as Huntley, Reid Peacock and the rest of the Pirates defense line would constantly find their way into the backcourt, as well as a major interception from Ra’Cash Kelly.
Less than a minute before half-time, a failed punt attempt by Austin-East brought the Pirates the ball at the seven-yard line. De’Andre Kelly’s number was called again and he went into the end zone, giving the Pirates a 27-0 lead before the break.
After the second half, the Pirates Defense forced another turn on downs and gave the Pirates the ball at the 25-yard line. A twelve-yard run by Jaden Mount moved the chains to 37. A few games later, De’Andre Kelly added his impressive touchdown total as he carried the ball 47 yards into the end zone for his fourth score of the night. A successful two-point conversion gave the Pirates a 35: 0 for fourth place.
The Pirates faced Paydirt again early in the fourth quarter through another pass from Hunter, this time into the hands of Ra’Cash Kelly, who carried it 52 yards to take a 42-0 lead. With such a sovereign lead and a running clock, the pirates were able to spare their starters. Newcomer Javarie Hutchins wowed viewers late in the game with a rush that changed direction a couple of times and shot a 31-yard gain forward. Time was running out and the Pirates held on with a final score of 42-0.
Kelly was an outstanding performer in this one with 76 yards on ten carries and four touchdowns. Hunter also had a big game of passing the ball for the Pirates as he made 12 of 20 attempts to pass for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
“It was important for us to get such a win,” said interim head coach Wes Stone. “Tonight we had a lot of people who contributed. It’s like I told them, I think we got a little better every week, I think we get a little better every week and we just have to keep trying to get better, ”Stone said.
Next week the pirates will travel to Sale Creek High School to take on the Panthers. “Big regional game in Sale Creek next week,” Stone said. “They will be really excited the first time they play us on their field, you know we always play at Finley. They are going to be really excited to play against us so we have to come back on Monday and get ready. ”
