Private jet service JSX ramps up Dallas to Austin and Houston flights

Dallas-based private jet service JSX is launching flights from Dallas Love Field to Austin and expanding service to Houston in hopes that business travelers will pay the premium to skip airport terminals.

JSX will fly to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on September 27th and fly to Dallas Love Field twice a day in its 30-seat jets. JSX will also double its service from Dallas Love Field to Houston Hobby Airport.

North Texas already has many services to Houston and Austin, but JSX is playing a piece from a popular book. Southwest Airlines, based in Dallas, began 50 years ago as a short-haul Intertex airline between Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

“Demand for air travel in our home state of Texas continues to grow and we are excited to add Austin to our route map,” said Alex Wilcox, CEO of JSX. “In addition to our increased air traffic between Dallas and Houston, our new Austin route will give Texans what they have longed for: simple, accessible alternatives to crowded commercial flights.”

JSX moved from California to Dallas in 2018 but didn’t start flying here until early 2020 when it launched flights to Las Vegas. It began flying to Houston five times a week in 2020, but much of its North Texas expansion has since focused on connections to vacation destinations such as Destin, Florida and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

The Austin and Houston service marks a serious addition to the company, which flies Embraer 145 jets with the center seats removed to limit capacity to about 30 passengers. For comparison: United Airlines can drop up to 50 passengers in its Embraer 145 regional jets.

Major airlines have found that business traveler traffic is still well below historical levels, but large corporate clients have started slowly increasing their travel expenses while trying to coordinate returns to the offices.

JSX hopes to build a bridge to regular business traffic by offering flights on aircraft at greater distances and eventually luring these passengers onto its scheduled services.

JSX also allows passengers to skip the airport terminal so they can load up to 20 minutes before departure at its private facility on the airport premises.

Flights from Dallas to Austin start at $ 129, the same price as flights from Dallas to Houston and back.
