Here are the top stories in Austin today:

  1. AustinThe metro population is expected to double over the next decade, and with more people comes more traffic. The city tries to provide incentives for the use of public transport– so far to relatively little success. Before the pandemic began, only 4-5% of residents used public transport to commute, a number that has most likely decreased since then. At the same time, traffic activists called the city a “turning point” and said it has the potential to change its car-centered image. (Reuters)
  2. Speaking of traffic, Austinis a new $ 150 million Connect project The plan to build a new light rail network through the city goes hand in hand with expanding – rather than removing – the highways. (Slate)
  3. Austin’s Councilor Greg Casar announced that it is forming an exploratory committee for a congress in 2019 Texas District 35–That comes afterwards Democrat Lloyd Doggett said he would run in District 37. On the city council, Casar fought for a $ 15 minimum wage, paid sick leave, and closed loopholes used by luxury homeowners. (Austin patch)
  4. 2 adults and 1 child were found dead in a triple murder SE Austin. This story is still developing and the police are asking residents to contact them with additional information. (Austin patch)
  5. The original Nutty brown amphitheater The location is slated to close in November and move to a larger location Southwest Austin until 2023. The developer behind the project hopes it will cement the city’s status as the “Live Music Capital of the World”. (KVUE.com)
