Redwire’s Digital Engineering Capability Successfully Demonstrates Simulated Hybrid Space Architecture to Support Joint All-Domain Operations

JACKSONVILLE, Florida., July 22, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Redwire, a new leader in mission-critical space solutions and digital engineering solutions for the next-generation space economy, today announced a successful demonstration resulting from a contract awarded by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) / AFWERX October 6, 2020 for the company’s Hybrid Architecture Laboratory Operational Environment (HALOE). HALOE enables users to simulate hybrid space architectures for advanced mission planning to support full Joint All-Domain Operations (JADO).
The demonstration showed the potential of HALOE to enhance the US national defense by facilitating fast and configurable digitally engineered space mission design through trading and analysis of various missions for the National Security Space.
“The successful demonstration of HALOE’s ability to accommodate and harmonize current and upcoming assets across multiple domains in a single digital environment is an important milestone on the way to JADO,” said, Stanley O. Kennedy Jr., Chief Architect of Redwire. “The realization of the final vision of HALOE will enable key decision makers to evaluate current and future capabilities for integration into existing architectures or planned architectures of the future. This unique digital engineering capability for space has the potential to increase the speed and cost of future architectural implementations. “
HALOE’s cloud-based architecture enables geographically dispersed teams to collaborate remotely in virtual digital engineering environments and enables the configuration of multiple satellite constellations, ground stations and different assets in a single simulation. The simulation is time-synchronized and supports user-defined time steps to ensure that all assets stay in step for assessment against mission objectives and defined performance metrics. Ultimately, this will improve the fidelity of simulations while reducing development costs.
HALOE is based on the Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) framework of the ACORN digital engineering software suite from Redwire. ACORN offers a scalable, expandable, quickly reconfigurable and closed end-to-end space system digital engineering environment that implements open and standardized interfaces for segments, subsystems and components. HALOE uses the same multidisciplinary design optimization functions from ACORN, which enable rapid reconfiguration of space systems through agnostic interfaces to enable the integration of different systems into the simulation environment.
“MOSA-based digital engineering technologies like ACORN and HALOE are key to enabling the future of JADO. At Redwire, we are at the forefront of digital engineering for JADO and HALOE is one of the first major stepping stones to implementing the future architecture of National Security Space. ” , “said Maureen O’Brien, Senior Vice President, Redwire Mission Solutions.
