SAN ANTONIO – The technology community in San Antonio grows and evolves every year as more companies and entrepreneurs choose to call Alamo City home.

To help these companies and businesses develop in the region, the SA Startup Week will take place in San Antonio from October 11-22. According to its website, the event is a “free, multi-day conference bringing together over 2,000 Texan entrepreneurs, prostitutes and changemakers”.

SA Startup Week Managing Director Dax Moreno came to Leading SA on Sunday to discuss the technology climate in San Antonio and the future of the industry.

“I would describe it as varied with a few different strengths. While we’re still finding ourselves and expanding our general technology, the people who create software applications and the like, we have some really, really great powerhouse teams. Port San Antonio is one that is doing some wonderful things with innovation and deep technology, robotics, ”said Moreno.

The tech community in downtown Geekdom is also growing rapidly.

“We have the TRTF Building Life Sciences and we are attracting some amazing, amazing companies that are building and growing their business here in San Antonio,” said Moreno.

We asked Moreno what sets San Antonio apart from other places that make it a destination for tech companies. This is what he had to say:

“We are resilient. We have amazing adaptability. We are also really fantastic thinkers and doers and builders. The way I expound it for everyone is that there is no person in San Antonio. I think when they take a job or work, they only take on that one role. They usually find other ways to help their team, their company, by doing other things around them and taking on different roles. If you sell a little, you will do a little marketing. When you code, you will be helping with the architecture. We just concentrate incredibly on building something with our teammates and doing good, ”said Moreno.

As with most cities and industries, the pandemic has been harsh, but San Antonio has continued to find a way to spin and grow.

“The last 18 months have been difficult. There’s no way around it. That certainly had an effect. What was really great is that it was also a time for an exam. I think a lot of companies have found wonderful pivot points not only to keep their business going, but to find ways to thrive, find new ways to develop new products, to reach new audiences and the ability to get to be able to sell and deliver value to their customers or a market. We’re working really hard to highlight these stories during our Startup Week here in October, ”said Moreno.

Startup Week is only a few weeks away, and Moreno said this could be a great opportunity for the Alamo City.

“What we’re really hoping for this year is to just invite more people over to find out what’s going on with startups. And it’s not just about a big focus on tech startups. We have a lot of people who make products, consumer goods, that come out on the market. We’re attracting some people from Austin and other places who will come in and speak, ”Moreno said. “We want more people to show up and get involved. We will be personal again with great social distance … But this is our opportunity to get together. ”
