San Antonio-based tamale shop gets first Austin location, a second restaurant for Lou’s and more South Austin business news

1. The San Antonio-based Delicious Tamales restaurant will open its first Austin location in November 1931 at E. Oltorf St., Austin. Owned by mother-daughter duo Valerie Gonzalez and Herlinda Lopez, the restaurant is slated to open for pre-orders and take-out on November 18. Delicious Tamales offers hot or cold tamales, including pork, beans, cheese, chicken, and vegetarian options. www.delicioustamales.com
2. Asahi Imports Japanese grocery store will have a second location at 3005 S. Lamar Blvd., Ste. B 105B, Austin. The business, owned and operated by Sally Matsumae, has a location at 6105 Burnet Road, Austin. The store offers a selection of Japanese food products, including snacks and housewares. Asahi Imports was originally scheduled to open in October, but that date has been postponed while the store suffers shipping delays. www.asahiimports.com
3. Surf and skate shop Electric Surf Co. plans to open in early December at 2300 S. Lamar Blvd., Austin. 4. East Austin Restaurant Lou’s will open a second location in 2022 on the former location of the Ski Shores Cafe at 1608 Barton Springs Road, Austin. McGuire Moorman Lambert Hospitality confirmed the news on Nov. 9 after taking ownership of both Ski Shores Cafe locations. that are temporarily closed. The Lake Austin location at 2905 Pearce Road will also reopen in 2022, according to MML. Lou’s serves burgers, fries, meat and vegetables from the rotisserie, cocktails and more. www.lousaustin.com
5. The local non-profit PEAS (Partners for Education, Agriculture and Sustainability) celebrates its 10th anniversary this fall. The organization works with students from Austin ISD and other schools in the area to provide outdoor education and teach how to grow food. 6. The creators of Ramen Tatsu-ya, the brothers Tatsu and Shion Aikawa, opened the Tiki Tatsu-Ya on October 4th. The bar offers tiki-style cocktails and small bites, both with a Japanese influence.
