San Antonio is among the best cities in the country, according to Travel + Leisure readers

Visitors enjoy their time in San Antonio, according to a poll in a popular travel magazine that named Alamo City one of the best in the country.
Travel + Leisure asked readers to vote in its annual poll for the World’s Best Awards, which allows them to choose their favorite cities, islands, resorts, hotels, parks and other travel destinations from around the world.
San Antonio, with its rich history, theme parks, and popular River Walk, came in sixth in the Best US City Vote. Last year it was seventh.

According to the magazine, “readers rated cities according to sights, landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping opportunities and overall value”.
In the list of 15 cities, the Alamo City was 7th, ahead of Chicago, but behind New York City, 5th. Charleston, South Carolina took first place for the ninth consecutive year. Santa Fe, New Mexico, Savannah, Georgia and New Orleans followed.
Southern cities are popular with its readers, “thanks to the wonderful mix of warm hospitality, accessible size, excellent food and striking architecture,” said the magazine.

Fort Worth and Austin were the only two other cities to make the list at # 12 and # 13, respectively.
Among the best hotels in the country, the Hotel Emma was voted the seventh best city hotel in the USA. It was the only hotel in Texas that made the list. Viceroy Chicago took the top spot.
Although Austin’s Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection, was voted the best resort in Texas, three San Antonio destinations made it to the list of the state’s top 10 resorts.
La Cantera Resort & Spa finished fifth, followed by JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in 7th and Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa in 10th.
