Santa Cruz mountain people prepare for storm
Updated: 6:55 PM PST Dec 12, 2021
On Sunday the locals in the Santa Cruz Mountains were in full preparation mode for the upcoming rainstorm. Heavy rain and gusty winds, that’s exactly what the residents have prepared for – walking in and out of hardware stores, stocking up on all the supplies they need, whose stocks of tarpaulins were sold out. “We see a lot of people picking up tarps to prepare for the rain and a lot of plumbing just in case. Definitely planning, batteries and, to be honest, water, because everything will be shut down completely, ”said Claire Ersunay, cashier at the ACE hardware store. Many longtime locals like Ed Austin, who has lived in Ben Loman for 25 years, said it was a habit to stay prepared. “Anything can happen here, especially in winter it rains a lot compared to many other places,” said Austin. “My generator has petrol, all gutters have been cleared, driveways cleared.” Drought, he is enjoying the much-needed rain. However, for him and other neighbors, the loss of power and everything that comes with it is the greatest concern. “For me and my wife, we work from home, so if we lose power, we’ll lose Comcast, our phones, and our internet,” said Austin. Many people also said that they prepared their roofs to prevent leakage and stocked up on groceries so they could avoid driving on wet roads.
