AUSTIN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is providing more than $ 310 million in nutritional supplements through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for the month of November.

The grants are said to benefit more than 1.5 million Texas households, according to a statement from Governor Greg Abbott’s office.

“Our continued investment in SNAP emergency services has ensured Texas families can put food on the table during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Governor Abbott. “Thank you HHSC and USDA for bringing these resources to Texans across the state.”

“We pride ourselves on helping Texans get nutritious food for their families and celebrating the holidays together,” said Wayne Salter, assistant executive commissioner, Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services.

HHSC received state approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to extend the maximum amount of SNAP benefits allowed to recipients based on family size, and all SNAP households will receive at least $ 95 in emergency quotas.

This additional contingency contingent should appear on recipients’ accounts by November 30th.

The November emergency grants are on top of more than $ 4.8 billion in benefits granted to Texans since April 2020.

SNAP is administered by HHSC and is a federal program that provides food assistance to eligible families and low-income individuals in Texas.
