South Austin’s newest bar – inspired by a puppy named Shiner – is sure to be a huge hit with local pooches and their two legged human friends.
The Watering Bowl ATX is located at 820 FM 1626 on extensive grounds with beautiful mature trees.
Opened in October, the Watering Bowl ATX is designed to help locals think and love like a dog: in the moment and unconditionally.
Here, owner Leslie Paetschow and Chief Dogperations Officer Heather Spearman don’t sweat the ruff, but instead host a range of activities, classes, and events focused on puppies, plus some of the best local craft beers on 16 taps, hard seltzer, wine, and non-alcoholic Austinites drinks never got dog-tired. A cocktail program is also in the works. And yes, doggy beer and puppy cups are also available.
Daily dog park passes cost only $ 10 for a single puppy, but The Watering Bowl ATX also offers a variety of memberships that give dogs unlimited park access and special perks for their humans.
The venue regularly hosts dog get-togethers, puppy trivia, painting with your puppies, and local artisan pop-ups. Training courses are also offered outside of regular parking hours.
The idea for The Watering Bowl ATX began in late 2013 when Paetschow adopted her puppy Shiner and quickly realized that he had a lot of energy to burn. She adopted a running habit, jogging with him almost every day on 6-mile stints that ended in the city’s dog park.
“Watching him play and goofy was definitely entertaining, but sometimes I just wanted to sit back and relax with a beer after a stressful day at work,” says Paetschow. “One day it occurred to me that if there was a place with a bar and a bathroom, I could take it with me and – boom – there was my brilliant idea and my new desire for life.”
She only had one problem: she had no capital and no management experience. She says she doesn’t have any friends with wallets who want to invest. So this aspiring dogpreneur taught herself some new tricks, took online business and finance classes, listened to entrepreneurship podcasts, and wrote her own business plan and cash flow statements.
Eventually, through hard work and persistent determination all these years later, The Watering Bowl ATX was born, although Paetschow admits that her vision for the park has evolved.
“My new, bigger dream is to use an outdoor dog park and bar so that people can not only give their dog the best life without sacrificing time with friends,” she says, “but I have them too Opportunity to help people separate from life work and stress – because if we are all honest, who can speak of a real work-life balance these days? “
Because of this, The Watering Bowl ATX encourages dog-loving people to adopt a happier puppy mentality, to take time to remember what’s important, be present, make new friends, have fun, and live every dog day like this as he is The best day ever.
The ATX water bowl is open to all neutered or neutered dogs and people aged 21 and over from Monday to Friday 2 pm-10pm and Saturday and Sunday 10 am-10pm for the park game. Follow the park on Instagram for updates and event information.
