Austin’s HealthCare facilities in the St. David area are recognized nationwide for an “A” rating for Leapfrog Safety Ratings in Fall 2021.

By receiving all “A” ratings, the hospital system is recognized for “providing safer healthcare and protecting patients from harm,” according to an announcement by St. David’s HealthCare. This announcement states that St. David’s will be the only hospital system in the Austin area to receive this rating for all eligible facilities.

“St. David’s HealthCare is committed to delivering safe, high-quality care to every patient every day,” said Dr. Ken Mitchell, Chief Medical Officer of St. David’s HealthCare, in the announcement. “We appreciate and welcome the extraordinary commitment of our doctors, nurses and staff who have contributed to this recognition, especially in this critical time of need. Receiving this award during the COVID-19 pandemic is incredible testament to our nurses’ commitment to providing exceptional care to our patients. “

Leapfrog Group is an independent, not-for-profit organization that assigns letter grades to hospitals in the United States based on more than 30 performance metrics, including the prevention of medical errors, injuries, infections, and accidents in patients caring for those facilities. Leapfrog Hospital’s safety level is assessed by experts and is open to the public. It is updated every six months in autumn and spring.

St. David’s HealthCare system facilities that have received this rating include St. David’s Medical Center, St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital. The Heart Hospital of Austin and the System’s St. David’s Surgical Hospital were not eligible for evaluation as they are considered specialty facilities, according to St. David’s communication.
