AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) – The Austin-San Antonio corridor’s population surge in recent years has been one of the most notable growth stories in the country, though experts warn there is more and more to watch out for.
The corridor could soon compare to large metroplexes like the Dallas-Fort Worth area, experts say, and there is evidence already taking shape. Huge neighborhoods are sprouting up along the corridor, and businesses continue to invest in the area, both with expansions and relocations.

But local governments should plan ahead how the region will address the impact of the growing population on key elements such as transportation infrastructure, water and energy, said state demographer Lloyd Potter.
Hays County, based in San Marcos, saw faster population growth than any other county in Texas from 2010 to 2020, according to the latest data from the US Census Bureau.

Comal County, with New Braunfels as its seat, was not far behind. In fact, New Braunfels has been ranked as one of the fastest growing cities in the country among cities with more than 50,000 residents at the beginning of the decade for the past 10 years.
