AUSTIN, TX – Tesla has created approximately 5,000 new jobs in Austin so far in 2021, according to a report by the Austin Chamber of Commerce.

The electric car maker, which is building a gigafactory in southeast Travis County, promised to create the most jobs in the city in 2021, the data said. One hundred and fifty companies expanding or relocating to the city have pledged to create 20,840 jobs between January and September.

Tesla chose Austin over Tulsa, Oklahoma for its factory amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis that left many people jobless and bankrupt many companies.

Tesla’s final promise, however, was to help Austin regain its economic hegemony by offering a significant number of jobs to the area’s residents.

With this announcement, the number of new jobs could already rise as more job opportunities are likely to be created as the company moves its administrative operations to Texas.

“Our factory is about five minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from downtown, and we’re going to create an ecological paradise here because we’re on the Colorado River,” Musk said at an annual shareholders’ meeting. “It is going to be great.”

Other notable companies promising significant job opportunities include Amazon, which is committed to creating 2,000 new jobs at a Texas fulfillment center.
