A fire in a animal shelter in Texas on Sunday evening killed 75 dogs, the fire department confirmed.
The Georgetown Fire Department responded to the fire at the Ponderosa Pet Resort at 2518 N. Austin Ave at around 11 p.m.
The emergency services were on site within a few minutes of the call. But when they got there, the fire was shrouded in smoke, the Georgetown Texas Fire Department said.

All 75 dogs in the resort died. Firefighters believe the dogs likely died from smoke inhalation, not the flames of the fire.
Georgetown Fire Chief John Sullivan said no people were injured in the flames, but “that doesn’t make it any less tragic”.

“For us as first responders, it’s extremely heartbreaking. When I got the address, my heart just fell and I knew exactly where we were going because, frankly, I consider my personal pet to be my closest confidante, friend and someone who This is.” don’t judge, “said Sullivan.” And so my heart breaks again for people.
The cause and origin of the fire are still unclear. Fire investigators are working to determine if there were any fire or smoke alarms.
The facility’s owner has reportedly worked with investigators. The facility is currently contacting the owners of the dogs so they can rescue their deceased pets.

Georgetown is about 30 miles north of Austin.
