Austin, TX (STL.News) Governor Greg Abbott announced that Vidor has been named a music-friendly community by the Texas Music Office (TMO) after completing the multi-tier certification process. The Music Friendly Community program aims to promote the economic development of the music business in Texan cities and towns.
“With support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry created more than 210,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs in communities across the Lone Star State in 2019, and generated $ 27.3 billion in economic activity,” said Governor Abbott. “Music Friendly Communities, certified by the Texas Music Office, are seriously interested in attracting and developing the local music industry to fuel job creation and economic growth. I congratulate Vidor on receiving the Music Friendly Community award and look forward to building on their continued success. “

The City of Vidor and the Texas Music Office invite the community to celebrate the appointment at Vidor City Hall on Tuesday, August 24, from 3pm to 6pm. TMO community relations and outreach specialist Chip Adams will present Vidor Mayor Misty Songe with the music-friendly award.
According to the organizers of the City of Vidor: “There will be cakes, cookies, refreshments and of course music. Also, attendees can take a personal tour of City Hall and the Walk of Fame star franchise with a member of the Band of Bands, the VHS Mighty Pirate Marching Band. ”
Vidor joins more than 20 other Texas cities that have received the official Music Friendly Community award. These cities include Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Denton, Lindale, Stephenville, Conroe, San Angelo, Nacogdoches, Abilene, McKinney, Waxahachie, Waco, Alpine, Bastrop, New Braunfels, Victoria, Lubbock, Denison, Arlington, Brenham, Dripping Springs, Round Rock, El Paso and Odessa. Cities currently in the certification process are Houston and Dallas.
