The Texas Republican House of Representatives spokesman announced he plans to charter a plane that will be on “standby” in Washington, DC, to bring home Democratic lawmakers who have fled the state to avoid over to vote on an electoral integrity law.
“I urge all of our colleagues in DC to contact my staff immediately to secure their seat on the plane and return to Austin to do the business of the state,” said spokesman Dade Phelan in a statement. “The state of Texas is waiting.”

Earlier this week, a group of Democratic lawmakers fled Austin, Texas and flew to the country’s capital instead of participating in a quorum vote on a Republican-proposed bill tightening postal voting ID card requirements and prohibiting transit and overnight stays early voting.
“The Texas Democrats’ decision to break a quorum of the Texas legislature and abandon the Texas State Capitol is damaging the very Texans they chose to serve,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in one Explanation at this time. “As they fly across the country in comfortable private planes, they leave issues open that can help their districts and our state.
Without the Chamber Quorum, Republicans were unable to implement the law and voted Tuesday to instruct state law enforcement officers to track down the fugitive members.

Phelan not only chartered the plane, but also disenfranchised El Paso Democrat Joe Moody, whom the Democrat addressed in a Twitter post.
“The most important titles in my life will never change: Dad, Husband, El Pasoan,” tweeted Moody. “Nothing political has ever made the top 3, so nothing has changed about who I am or what my values are.”

While in Washington, DC, dozens of on the run Democrats met with Democratic lawmakers, and the Texas Democrats’ official Twitter account posted Thursday that they “refuse to return.”
