‘Tis the time of year to take time out! Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, short family road trip, or even a solo adventure, we have a few vacation destinations to add to your Texas bucket list.
Travel editor Marika Flatt from Texas Lifestyle Magazine gives us a glimpse into some of the hidden gems. Just look!
Vacation destinations in Texas
Medina Highpoint Resort, Medina
- As part of the RVC Outdoor Destinations group, this tranquil slice of Hill Country bliss lies between the two small towns of Medina and Kerrville.
- The ranch house was designed in the 1940s by a famous architect who was involved in the design of many of the buildings on the University of Texas campus at Austin. Completed in 1948 from the same limestone that the LBJ library was built from and which has housed many politicians and dignitaries over the years.
- The ranch house was the owner’s original home decades ago and has been renovated to perfectly accommodate 10 people with its 3 suites, living room, dining room and adequately equipped kitchen where you can change meals and cook for the whole group.
- The hero of this home is the back porch that runs the length of the ranch house and overlooks the resort’s pool. With a beautiful green space between the house and the pool, you have easy access to the infinity pool with adjoining whirlpool.
- (The average cost for the ranch house is about $ 870 per night on a weekday and up to $ 1000 per night on a weekend).
- Additional family members can rent their own cabins, many of which are available on the property to choose from (average cost is around $ 250 per night). There are 6 different cabin types and styles with a total of 45 cabins to choose from.
- The property also has connections for RVs, barbecues, hiking, fishing and pets are allowed.
- There’s free Wi-Fi but no phone service, a children’s playground, and seasonal live music.
Camp comfort, comfort
A stylish interpretation of a camping experience with chandeliers made from “wire and glass bottles, a tribute to Camp Sports – the property was originally a sports camp. Fire pits in the courtyard and a swimming hole on adjacent Cypress Creek complete the summer camp fantasy aesthetic.
Very rustic on the outside and surprisingly chic on the inside. “

The rooms are decorated with colorful modern furnishings and luxuries such as air jet tubs that give their name to comfort.
Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort
- In northeast Texas, near Mount Pleasant, near Cypress Lake on Highway I-30, there is a hidden gem called Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort.
- This property is a unique mix of nostalgic campsite + dude ranch + lake resort. It combines the best aspects of this type of vacation into a peaceful getaway.
- There are 18 cabins (19 of which are in production) on the property, all of different shapes and sizes. Several colorful cabins line Deer Lake (10), each with its own boardwalk and pier. But there are 8 other cabins scattered around the 850-acre Double S Ranch where you can hide in the woods without seeing other people.
- Access to a variety of small boats including kayaks, a pedal boat, and a fishing boat.
