AUSTIN, Texas – The State Fair of Texas is back after being canceled last year. A provider travels more than 250 miles to set up.

“Make it the way it always is, you see? We had over a year off, ”said Nate Janousek, a salesman at the State Fair of Texas.

He owns a travel company called Fun Biz Concessions. They travel to trade shows across the country.

One of his favorites is the State Fair of Texas.

“The best turkey leg is at the state fair,” said Janousek. “The best barbecue at the state fair.”

After a year of COVID shutdowns in 2020, it is ready for use again.

“We lost over $ 5 million,” said Janousek. “I’ll say a lot of money.”

“First of all, it was heartbreaking for all of us here,” said Karissa Condoianis, senior vice president of the State Fair of Texas.

She says the fair lost nearly $ 20 million last year.

“Hundreds of small businesses that have lost that chance for a good part of their livelihoods and the notoriety that the State Fair of Texas brings them,” said Condoianis.

This year the fair is back in business. While most of the providers are from the DFW area, some are from across the state, like Nathan.
