Here’s some of what’s happening in Austin’s culinary scene, as emerged from numerous PR releases, words on the digital street, and even the occasional (verified) IRL tap.

Yes, it is your Food News Buffet for the second week of December.

Welcome back Lenoir, you’ve been missing (Photo by Katie Lüdecke)

How about some good news? Thai Fresh has reopened its dining room for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. Yes, we like that. For example, the Lenoir remodeling is finally complete, meaning they are open for dinner with 22 seats – including a banquet for up to 12 – with 10 seats on the comfy stools of the copper bar (first come, first full) Service there) – and celebrate their 10th anniversary on New Year’s Eve with a 10-course menu from chef Todd Duplechan. Uh, we like that too …

And Fareground, this high-end food court in downtown, has a weekend brunch (Sat-Sun, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.) with custard bao from Little Wu, a pancake-and-breakfast sandwich plate from Henbit, Austin salmon tartare. introduced rotisserie, and – yes, even more good things, and of course mimosas and Bloody Marys and more to wash off in their newly designed and stylishly comfortable interior …

You already know what a great music venue Antone’s is, don’t you? For three nights only – December 13th, 14th and 15th – the acclaimed sushi chef John Gocong from Osome will take over the music venue in East Fifth to offer a 17-course Omakase tasting plus sake pairings – followed by live Music sets by soul man Sam and Suzanne Santo. Ah, you may never have to sing those “Not Enough Wasabi for My Perfect Smoked Unagi” blues again …

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, which have already opened two shops in the ATX (but were not allowed to party due to the pandemic), is opening a third shop in the Triangle (4616 Triangle) and this time is throwing a sweet Hullaballo – with free ice cream all night (Thursday, December 16 ., 7-11pm) and all kinds of other delicacies …

And Easy Tiger, that tough bastion of bread and brew and more, opens up completely and grandly on the south side of town (3508 S. Lamar) with the addition of indoor seating for this location and the completion of the in-house bakery …

The elegant Hotel Granduca, out there, where Austin is really scenic and hilly, presents the latest long table dinner in the Ristorante Visconti – with a multi-course menu with hearty dishes and curated wine pairs. And – if you are looking for a relaxing sip, shopping and strolling experience – on the same day (Thu., Dec. 16), the Granduca is unveiling a holiday handicraft market …

We’ve all been a little crazy lately about the Bavarian Prince Konstantin and his new beer house Koko’s – for good reason – but let’s not forget the long-standing Germanic goodness of Scholz Garten and a little further away the excellent Krause’s Cafe outside in New Braunfels (especially on Saturday, December 18, when the Krause crew celebrates National Suckling Pig Day in due style). At this time of year we don’t say WWKE? – Where would Krampus eat? – but we remind you of possibilities, dear …

Meanwhile, head chef Madeline Brandstetter in the Salt & Time Wine Shop (1912 E. Seventh) has created new lunch, happy hour and evening menus with lighter dishes and fresh, seasonal bites to go with the shop’s extensive stocks of low-intervention wines fit – whether enjoyed in a glass or in a bottle. And, um, “low intervention wine,” they said? It means wine that is “labor intensive, with vineyard activities being done by hand”. Thanks google!

And if you were wondering what Tacodeli is doing to break up the temperate winter in Texas? I am happy to tell you …

Oh! Don’t forget this compilation of local sweets and savory gifts to give away …

Finally, we’re impressed and delighted to note that Meridian Hive’s various packs of honey-based alcohol are now packaged in recycled cardboard boxes made from unbleached kraft cardboard (containing up to 15% recycled fiber), eliminating plastic carriers altogether. We already love their delicious, thirst-quenching drinks and are making consumption even more attractive. If only these meridians allowed themselves to call the stuff Met, FFS, we would stop rolling our eyes …

Now eat the best you can, tip like it’s going out of style, and watch out for those mutating ‘ronas.
