The Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival w/ Ley Line, Geto Gala, Indoor Creature, Van Mary – Music Calendar

After years of licking our spicy fingers with devotion under the blazing sun of the Fiesta Gardens, the 30-year tradition of the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival turns into the spacious, shady Far Out Lounge of the South Congress. With a preferred outdoor venue for the pandemic era to hear sauce samples from 15 commercial bottlers and other spicy dishes, the Chronicle music team pondered long and hard about the ideal weekly alternative favorite: “Who did I miss hearing live ? “Acts for the afternoon party. A list by Ley Line [7:30pm], Geto Gala [6pm], Indoor creature [5pm], and Van Mary [4pm], with a DJ set by dub maestro McPullish [3pm], Results. Ley Line, a local acoustic quartet, moved through languages and musical geographies in happy harmony in their sophomore year We Saw Blue. Geto Gala brought together two standout personalities from central Texas – Bastrop rapper / singer Deezie Brown and alternative R&B local Jake Lloyd – for a nostalgic, south-facing February EP. Indoor Creature, a local indie pop sextet, were spotted leading a humming mohawk with jazz-influenced cuts from the aquatic May LP Living in Darkness last month. Van Mary, the emotional indie rock project of singer-songwriter Emily Whetstone, throws fuzzy, lovesick manifestos that hit you right in the stomach. – Rachel Rascoe
