Austin sued American Matar and several other insurance companies, alleging they wrongly failed to cover an insurance claim, according to court records. He obtained a default judgment against American Matar for $ 150,000.00. American Matar was unaware of the lawsuit or the verdict; However, since Austin had failed to meet the requirements for a defendant to be served under Texas law, it was too late to appeal when American Matar learned of the verdict.
