On Dezeen this week, BIG founder Bjarke Ingels revealed that he is masterfully planning a “new city in America” for five million people.
The city called Telosa is being designed for the US entrepreneur Marc Lore and is to be built “from scratch” on an uninhabited 150,000 hectare site in the US desert.
“Our vision is to create a new city in America that will set a global standard for urban life, expand human potential and become a blueprint for future generations,” a Telosa statement said.
Logan Architecture and ICON Complete “First 3D Printed Homes for Sale in the US”
Also in the US, Logan Architecture has completed four 3D printed houses in Austin that developer ICON claims will be the first 3D printed houses in the country to go on sale.
“They are the first 3D printed homes available for sale and ready to move into in the US,” ICON told Dezeen.
UAE wins the Golden Lion for the best pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale
In other architecture news, the United Arab Emirates’ Wetland Pavilion curated by Wael Al Awar and Kenichi Teramoto won the Golden Lion for best national participation at this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale.
The United Arab Emirates Pavilion, which is exploring the use of salt as an alternative to Portland cement, was named the winner for its focus on the building possibilities of waste materials.
Rebecca Weiss develops ultrasound-powered contraceptive devices for men
In design news, Rebecca Weiss, a graduate of the Technical University of Munich, won a James Dyson Award for her design concept for a male contraceptive.
The device would use ultrasound waves to temporarily stop the sperm from regenerating.
