U.S. Postal Service Bans Mailing of Vaping Products, LSO

AUSTIN, Texas, October 25, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Lone Star Overnight (LSO ™) package delivery company welcomes vaporizers who previously used the U.S. Postal Service prior to the October 21 ban. The ban will effectively end the delivery of steam products to consumers through the U.S. Post. This new U.S. Postal Service rule does not include any exceptions for the delivery of nicotine or cannabis vapor products (except within Alaska and Hawaii).
Large shippers and other regional parcel delivery companies also refuse to ship vape products, meaning consumers and businesses have few options. LSO is a major parcel delivery provider for the e-commerce industry as it offers better service, lower rates and more flexibility compared to national parcel delivery companies. The LSO service area covers ~ 13% of the US population and ecommerce orders in the US. The company believes that home delivery of vaping product orders is not that much different from e-commerce orders that include apparel, health and beauty, groceries, wine, housewares, and thousands of other products from a wide variety of retailers. LSO works from the premise that vaping products are legal and in demand, and that delivery companies only exist to meet consumer needs.
“I find it puzzling why other carriers have chosen not to support the vape market,” says Richard Metzler, Chief Executive Officer of LSO. “LSO and many other carriers make deliveries for wine sellers every day Regarding adult signing for wine are like products made for vaporizing. That’s why it’s such a headache for me that these companies treat vaping so differently because they’re also selling a legal product. Who knows, maybe next they will ban wine shipments. “
Based on federal 2020 legislation aimed primarily at shipping nicotine vaporizing devices, the Postal Service interpreted the law “on the letter” meaning cannabis and hemp vapes fall into the prohibited category. The law sets limits on “electronic nicotine delivery systems” or ENDS and defines it as “any electronic device that delivers nicotine, aroma or other substance to the user through an aerosolized solution that is inhaled from the device”.
There are limited exceptions. Businesses can apply for shipping permission to other businesses, but not directly to consumers. The schedule for approving these B2B applications is unclear. Private individuals can send a limited number of small packages of vapor products to other people, but these are not commercial transactions.
LSO knows the steamy public relies on delivery services and intends to serve that community on an ongoing basis. The company has established systems and processes for obtaining an adult signature at the delivery point, which is the main requirement sellers have when choosing a private delivery service. LSO is also the only parcel delivery company that delivers vape products anywhere in its service area.
“Let me be very clear,” said Metzler. “We’re open for business and welcome the vaping community to work with us on their deliveries in our service areas.”
