Two UN students made travel plans to see all that Nebraska has to offer in 2020. A year later, they do the same in Iowa.
Seth Varner and Austin Schneider, two aspiring juniors at the UN, traveled through Iowa this summer to visit each of the state’s 939 registered cities. Her travels have been featured in local, regional and national media – including media such as Yahoo News.
Last year, Varner and Schneider were traveling to the 531 cities in Nebraska when the pandemic slipped out of their normal summer plans. They documented their travels online and garnered thousands of followers on their social media platform Visit939Iowa.
Varner said the idea came from the idea that states had so much to offer. “We just want to prove that no matter where you go, no matter what small town you come from, there is never a reason to be bored because there are so many things to do in these small towns and big cities. There are endless possibilities,” said Varner At the beginning of the year against KMTV.
When Varner and Schneider first set out on their trip to Iowa on April 2, they immediately noticed a difference from their trip to Nebraska. The hilly landscape of Iowa and the significant increase in cities immediately aroused their interest.
The Des Moines Register published an article on Varner and Schneider’s plan to visit Iowa’s 939 cities by the end of this summer. The article also mentioned that they were funded through GoFundMe, a fundraising website, and Iowa Love, a clothing and merchandise brand that donates half of its profits to needy Iower.
The latest Facebook update from Visit939Iowa states that Maharishi Vedic City, IA, will be the last city Varner and Schneider visited. Maharishi Vedic City is the 639th city they visited; Just a few more weeks of summer, they raced against the clock to visit the remaining 300 cities.
