CHICAGO (AP) – The United States will play a World Cup qualifier for the first time in Texas and will host Jamaica at Q2 Stadium in Austin on October 7th.
The game will be the fourth of 14 qualifiers for the Americans in 20th place to open the eight-nation finals of the North, Central American and Caribbean regions in El Salvador on September 2 in a game that is likely to be played without fans. The US is home to # 70 in Canada on September 5th in Nashville, Tennessee, and # 67 in Honduras on September 8th.
The game against No. 45 Jamaica will be played in a 20,738-seat stadium, which opened last month as the home of Austin’s Major League Soccer team, the US Football Association said on Thursday. It’s the first of three games in October. The USA will play Panama on October 10th at 78th place and receive Costa Rica at rank 50 on October 13th.
The USSF said it will conduct a weighted random draw for tickets based on membership group.
The US will also play Jamaica in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, but will use a predominantly junior varsity roster for the regional championship.
