Van Gogh exhibit visitors frustrated over rescheduling, lack of refunds

AUSTIN (KXAN) – San Antonio-based Myra Morado took the chance to see the Beyond Van Gogh art exhibition at the Circuit of the Americas after visiting the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Morado spent nearly $ 140 on tickets for herself, her daughter, and her best friend, and was excited to see her June 18.

Then their reservation was postponed to June 26th without any input or warning, before their tickets were postponed to July 2nd by a second spontaneous postponement, “which postpones the exhibition opening to June 25th.

At Morado and several other customers, however, the unannounced postponements have resulted in unanswered refund requests, with some ticket holders expressing frustration at the lack of feedback on postponed appointments and limited communication from the exhibition’s customer service agents.

“It’s a bit frustrating … I mean, I get it, I’m sure they are bombarded with emails asking for refunds and people who are upset,” Morado said. “It just seems like maybe a bad organization.”

Austin-based Megan Brady was scheduled to visit the exhibit with her boyfriend on June 18 after spending nearly $ 100 on tickets. Their reservation was postponed to July 2, with exhibition representatives in the email saying they had 48 hours to request a date transfer. She emailed the company and three days later, agents said they wouldn’t approve a refund for failing to make the 48-hour notice.

“I believe [the communication has] was horrible, ”said Brady. “You just get an email, there is no real customer service to call or speak to, and then just send your email and wait and hope someone will get back to you.”

Brady reached out to KXAN on Friday to say that she received a follow-up email from show representatives late Thursday offering her a full refund.

“The sound-like names of the events create confusion and some fans are frustrated that they bought tickets to an event but then realized it wasn’t what they wanted.”

The Beyond Van Gogh exhibition is one of several art exhibitions across the country run by various vendors. Similar exhibitions are running independently in San Antonio and Dallas.

The Better Business Bureau warned potential attendees from the various vendors in a press release in March, urging customers to carefully review tickets and event information before making a purchase.

“Several exhibitions by post-impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh are planned to tour select cities in North America, but they offer different experiences,” the press release said. “The sound-like names of the events create confusion and some fans are frustrated that they bought tickets to an event but then realized it wasn’t what they wanted.”

Austin-based Jennifer Myers frequently visits art shows with friends and said she waited for this storefront after buying her tickets this spring. After spontaneous rescheduling and repeated requests for refunds or transferring appointments, she said she was not sure of ever hearing from exhibition representatives.

“I feel like I’ve been puzzled,” she said. “It drives you crazy, you know? Very unprofessional. “

Beyond Van Gogh representatives have not responded to repeated requests for comment from KXAN at the time of publication. KXAN will update this message when a statement is received.
