Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease on September 25th
The Alzheimer’s Association invites Austinites to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 25th at Q2 Stadium, 10414 McKalla Place.
Murals, architecture, and music will all be present, and the large outdoor venue will allow for physical distancing.
As plans progress to host the Austin Walk in person, the health and safety of participants, staff, and volunteers remain a top priority. All in-person events will implement security protocols, including physical distancing, contactless registration, hand sanitizing stations, and more. Masks are welcome and will be provided on site. The association will continue to monitor the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as state and local guidelines, to ensure that the walking events are as recommended and safe for participants.
For those who prefer, a Walk from Home option offers walk-day experiences through the website and mobile app.

ACC starts scholarship program
The Austin Community College District and NI announced a new all-inclusive scholarship program to help students from underserved communities advance careers in STEM fields. The NI Technical Scholar Program is part of ACC’s Career Scholars program.
The internship-to-employment program offers an engineering opportunity scholarship that covers the full cost of attending the ACC and a comprehensive development program including personalized mentoring from ACC and NI, a full-time paid summer internship at NI, part-time employment in NI’s product R&D -Organization and a bootcamp for technical skills.
The inaugural cohort starts this month with the first expected graduation ceremony in May 2022.

Webinar on domestic fruit production
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Travis County and Larry Stein, assistant manager of extension horticulture at Texas A&M University, will present the free webinar Home Fruit Production on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Stein will discuss the types and varieties of fruit that successfully grow in Travis County, particularly in relation to the thin soils of the Edwards Plateau to the west and the heavy clay soils of the Blackland Prairies to the east. He will explain how cooling times and irrigation affect fruit set and which varieties are best suited to our region.
For technical reasons, the webinar is limited to 100 participants, but an unlimited number of people can register and see a recording of the program.
