Which North Texas cities have the best tacos in the state? New study might surprise you

Ahead of National Taco Day on Monday October 4th, a new study rated the best cities in Texas for tacos.
Texas’s four largest cities were in the top five, with Austin and neighboring Round Rock receiving the highest honors, according to LawnStarter, a lawn care company that conducts national market research and lifestyle studies.
But in third place, Dallas scored a victory over San Antonio (4) and Houston (5) in the “Taco Wars” that Texan cities have been waging for years.
The deck was stacked in favor of Austin as the study took into account the results of the regional national taco championships that the city hosted in 2019. According to the study, their taco restaurants received more awards than any other city in Texas.
In the state’s 100 largest cities, the study looked at:
- Taco establishments per 1,000 inhabitants
- Median consumer rating for taco restaurants
- Total Points at the 2019 National Taco Championships, Austin area
- Google search interest in terms related to taco in the past 12 months
- Taco festivals per 1,000 inhabitants
The northern Texas suburbs performed solidly that we could predict. Just this week, the Dallas Morning News featured 10 Taquerias in Collin County.
