Worker shortage leads to changes in Austin ISD’s student menus

AUSTIN (KXAN) – With numerous kitchen locations across Austin ISD campus, student lunch may look a little different than advertised on the menu.
In a statement released late last week, AISD officials said there are nearly 100 vacancies in campus kitchens. However, the labor shortage is not limited to AISD.

Officials admitted that a similar labor shortage is affecting the national suppliers who supply AISD’s food. With vacancies at both local and national levels, this may result in suppliers not being able to accurately fulfill the shipments requested by AISD.
Despite the shortages, all pupils will receive free meals this year, regardless of their family’s income.
Schoolchildren and families can find more information on expected daily menu offers and allergens at meals on the district’s school cafe portal.
