YouTube vs. TikTok: Former Eastern Washington standout, YouTube celebrity Austin McBroom steps into the boxing ring

When former East Washington security guard Austin McBroom made a connection, it was often from a great distance.
The graduate transfer from Saint Louis University knocked 115 3-point points down in its only 2015-16 season in Cheney, long before its social media personality earned it millions, mansions and Lamborghinis.
McBroom, who has 19 million YouTube subscribers, 6.5 million Instagram followers and 1.7 million Twitter followers, now wants to take the open close combat shot: body shots.
McBroom will box Bryce Hall on Saturday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami as part of the widely acclaimed Battle of the Platforms: YouTube vs. TikTokers.
McBroom and Hall – who have a TikTok account of more than 19 million followers – are the main card in a pay-per-view event with musical guests DJ Khaled, Lil Baby and Migos.
It’s fair to say that McBroom, 29, and Hall, 21, don’t like each other. The two have been involved in two pre-fight scuffles since the scheduled game.
Their first altercation took place at the event’s press conference in West Hollywood, California, which almost turned into hand-to-hand combat. The two came back into the game last week in Miami just before former world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather battled actor and social media personality Logan Paul.
McBroom has repeatedly predicted a knockout in the first round.
“I trained hard for that. I have a lot to prove not only to myself, but also to my family and my fans, ”McBroom said at a press conference.
Las Vegas betting operators prefer McBroom, whose fame has been cultivated through his YouTube channel “The ACE Family”. The show follows the lavish Southern California lifestyle of McBroom, wife and former model Catherine Paiz and their two young daughters.
The ACE Family has received more than 4 billion views. According to reports, the estimated net worth of the family in 2020 was $ 22 million.
Hall gained his following with a party boy personality. He started the argument at the press conference by tackling a garbage-talking McBroom.
“You can’t play boxing. You can be seriously injured, ”said McBroom. “I hope (Hall) took this really seriously.”
McBroom began his college basketball career in central Michigan, where he received the All-Mid-American Conference Freshman Team Honor. As a junior he moved to Saint Louis, where he started a total of 15 games during his junior and senior seasons and once reached the NCAA tournament.
He started fire at EMU as a senior in his fifth year, averaging 21 points and 3.6 assists per game and receiving the All-Big Sky Conference award. The Eagles finished 18-16 and 10-8 in the Big Sky game.
Former EMU head coach Shantay Legans, who led the Eagles to an NCAA tournament appearance earlier this year, was an assistant in Cheney when McBroom was on the roster.
Legans, who is now the head coach at the University of Portland, can’t wait to see how McBroom does in the ring.
“I didn’t think he’d box, but he’s a very good athlete. Fast hands, ”said Legans. “If we had won the league this year, maybe he would have been the (Big Sky) MVP.
“He was always respectful and had a good personality. I hope to see the fight. “
