1. Birdie’s neighborhood restaurant and wine bar opens July 15 at 2944 E. 12th St., Unit A, Austin. Run by couple and New York restaurant veterans Arjav Ezekiel and Tracy Malechiek-Ezekiel, the Birdie’s menu changes daily and includes seasonal American dishes inspired by French and Italian cuisine. www.birdiesaustin.com
2. Dell Children’s Medical Center a new specialized birthing and delivery unit June 24th. Obstetricians, an obstetrically trained nursing team and anesthetists occupy the 11-bed unit for low-risk patients whose babies have been diagnosed with a disease and who require special care after birth. The department at 4900 Mueller Blvd., Austin includes five labor and delivery suites, two operating rooms, and six pre- and postpartum suites. https://dellchildrens.net
3. Zeds Real Fruit Ice Cream celebrated its grand opening on July 8th, 1814 at Harvey St., Austin. The new shop serves New Zealand-style soft ice cream – a mix of vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit. Zeds was founded in Portland, Oregon by University of Texas alumni Matt Potter and Caleb Schmidt. This is the first Zeds location outside of Portland. www.zedsicecream.com
4. Hi Sign Brewing plans to move their taproom next year. The brewery, which has been located at 1201 Bastrop Hwy., Austin since 2017, will reopen in March in a new warehouse at 730 Shady Lane, Austin. 5. KollectiveLuv Photography moved from its SL Davis Avenue location to 2401 E. 6th St., Unit 4063 in June. Photographer Karla Hernz specializes in photography of women, including bridal, pregnancy, boudoir and portrait photography.
