According to a food bank press release, Central Texas Food Bank is delivering free boxes of groceries monthly directly to food-insecure residents of Travis County as part of a program in partnership with the Austin Public Health Neighborhood Services Unit and Amazon.
Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO of Central Texas Food Bank, stated in the press release that one in seven families in Central Texas is food insecure.
The program will run through the end of 2021 and will serve families with children, members over 60, people with disabilities, and current or former military personnel. Each monthly box contains enough durable food for 25 meals.
In the first six weeks after the program launched in June, 300 households signed up and Amazon delivered 8,525 meals, the statement said.
Households are eligible for supplies when they are in Travis County, in need of food assistance, and have barriers to attending food distribution events, the news release said.
The Central Texas Food Bank is located at 6500 Metropolis Drive in Austin and can be reached at 512-282-2111.
