AMHERST – City Manager Paul Bockelman presented the city council with the names of seven for the Jones Library Building Committee. The committee is due to vote on Monday.

The names are in a memo he recently wrote to the council, posted on the city website on Friday, in which the manager said two additional names would be submitted.

The seven include Bockelman, library director Sharon Sharry, Amherst finance director Sean Mangano, library maintenance officer George Hicks, library administrators Austin Sarat and Alex Lefebvre, and councilor George Ryan. Officials previously agreed that it would be a nine-member board.

In the memo, Bockelman wrote, “I am still recruiting for these two seats: residents with experience in energy efficient public architecture, engineering, or construction; Residents with experience in effective public relations. “

He said the committee’s primary role is overseeing the design and construction process of the $ 36.3 million restoration and expansion of the Jones Library.

The committee is responsible for reviewing all important decisions.

Amherst voters will vote in the local elections on November 2nd to approve the Jones Project.

The council voted to approve it back in April and on August 2nd it voted 9-3 to put it on the ballot.
