The Austin Alt Memorial Classic took place Saturday and Sunday 29-30. May, instead. The show was hosted by the Audubon FFA and their advisors Andy VanAernam and Brittany Elmquist. This event was held at the Audubon County Fair Grounds in the Livestock Exposition Center. The program on Saturday consisted of a sanctioned cattle show, while on Sunday there was a sanctioned pig show. The organizers were pleased about the participation of the youth exhibitors, who showed 80 cattle and 175 pigs, all of which competed in the areas of breeding and market. President Rylan Hansen said, “The weekend went great and it’s great to see locals and others who drove for hours to be part of the FFA show participate.” The exhibitors won an exhibition banner (Race Champion and Reserve, Top 5 and showmanship and $ 7,000 in prize money. Audubon FFA consultant, Ms. Brittany Elmquist was satisfied with the outcome of the exhibition. With the positive response from exhibitors and viewers, we look forward to offering this show again next year. The Audubon FFA appreciates the help of everyone Animal lovers, sponsors and the Audubon County Fair Board to make this show a success. “

Assistant Advisor Andy VanAernam said, “This is the seventh time we’re doing a show. We started out as the Nishna Valley Showdown, but four years ago we lost a good friend in Austin Alt. He’s the son of Scott Alt, one of the biggest supporters of 4H, FFA, and all of Audubon County’s youth activities, and we knew it was right to rename the show in his mind. At the time, I didn’t even understand the importance of the name change. It’s become something of a family get-together with the entire Austin family attending annually and the many, many friends who have made our show an annual tradition. The Austin Alt Memorial Classic was also a way for us to bring people, fear and depression to the fore, a very important topic for me personally. Mental health struggles affect far more people than many of us realize, but our societies seem to shy away from discussing them. By hosting this event, we have the opportunity to keep the memory of Austin alive, to positively impact the lives of hundreds of teenagers who share the interests of Austin and his family, and we have the chance to do our part, Austins Telling a story in the hope of letting as many people as possible know that they are not alone in this world and that we need to normalize the discussion about our own struggles with depression. It’s not just a cattle show, it’s an incredibly strong weekend that is having a positive impact on the lives of many people in our state. “
