AUSTIN (KXAN) – On Sunday afternoon, visitors to Jester King Brewery “took a paw” to meet some potential new furry friends.
PAWS Shelter of Central Texas celebrated its return to personal community events – and its upcoming 35th anniversary – with an adoption drive at Jester King with three adult dogs and two puppies.
Debbie Cerda, community engagement coordinator at Jester King, said the brewery has been working with PAWS as part of its community partnership for 10 years.

“When you think about here in central Texas and the number of animals that have been housed in the last year that may have been housed, I think there have been a lot of adoptions,” she said. “But there are still some people who are probably still looking for a new addition to their home.”
Given the staff’s own love of animals and the brewery’s animal-friendly environment, she said the partnership was a natural collaboration and a guest would be happy.
Charlotte Hewitt, adoption counselor at PAWS, said the shelter’s two locations in Dripping Springs and Kyle have seen strong interest from potential adoptive parents throughout the pandemic. Jester King reached out to the shelter for this community interest event, which Hewitt says is a welcome break from 15 months of date-based adoptions during the pandemic.
It is important for future pet owners to keep track of the time, energy, and costs that go into caring for a furry friend. PAWS is currently offering appointments for visitors to tour the adoption facilities or meet with specific pets they would like to take home.
“You definitely want to make sure that you are ready to take a pet home with you, especially now that the pandemic is over,” she said, adding, “Just make sure you have the room and the energy and time for your new pet. “

PAWS is celebrating its 35th anniversary with the event “Dog Days of Summer” on June 5th with live music, food and pets for adoption.
For Jester King, the adoption drive marks the latest in the brewery’s return to community events and live entertainment shows. Upcoming events include goat yoga and walks, Thursday Night bluegrass shows, and the return of the Jester King Inn’s live music summer concert series.
