Bumpers College Faculty, Students Make Presentations, Earn Awards at NACTA Conference

Students and faculty combined eight presentations and received three awards.
Students and faculty members from four different units of the U of A’s Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences presented eight lectures and posters at the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agricultural 2021 virtual annual conference in June.
In addition, two students received teaching awards and three faculty members teamed up to win a magazine article award.
Eleven faculty members and four PhD students from the Department of Agricultural Education, Communication and Technology, the Department of Animal Sciences, the Department of Horticulture, and the School of Human Environmental Sciences attended.
PhD students Devin Boggs and Breanna Wade from HESC and Teddy Hood and Austin Wise from AECT presented. Boggs and Wade were engaged in human development and family science, and Hood and Wise in agricultural and agricultural training.
Faculty members present were Lecturer Casandra Cox, Associate Professor Chris Estepp, University Professors Donna Graham and Don Johnson, Professor Jeff Miller, Associate Professor Jill Rucker and Head of Department and Professor George Wardlow of AECT; Instructor Kathi Jogan from animal science; Assistant Professor Ryan Dickson of Horticulture; and Professor Betsy Garrison and Associate Professor Jacquelyn Mosley of Human Development and Family Studies at HESC.
Master’s students Anika Parks and Jessica Wesson in Agriculture and Continuing Education received the Graduate Student Teaching Award. Teaching prizes go to student members who are active in the classroom and who excel as teachers in agricultural disciplines.
Estepp, Johnson and Professor Kate Shoulders received the Jack Everly NACTA Journal Article Award, recognizing one of the magazine’s two best articles each year, and Estepp was named the new NACTA Secretary-Treasurer.
NACTA is a professional society focused on teaching and learning in agriculture and related disciplines at the post-secondary level.
