Derrick Chubbs is leaving the Austin-based nonprofit to accept a similar position in Florida.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) announced Friday that the organization’s President and CEO Derrick Chubbs was leaving in late December.

Chubbs accepted a position as President and CEO of a grocery bank in Orlando, Florida.

“The board and staff of the Food Bank wish Derrick well and thank him for his contribution to fighting hunger,” said Stephen Portner, chairman of the board of the Central Texas Food Bank. “He helped us lay a strong financial and strategic foundation for future success. Today, our food bank supports more neighbors than ever, and Derrick’s leadership helped make it happen. As he leaves, we are delighted that his expertise will continue to benefit the Feeding America network. “

Chubbs first took on the role in November 2016, leading the nonprofit’s response to natural disasters such as hurricanes and winter storm Uri, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. The CTFB also said Chubbs was instrumental in drawing up a new five-year strategic plan for the food bank.

Catrina Salinas, Chief People Officer, will lead the Central Texas nonprofit on an interim basis while the board searches for a permanent replacement. According to the press release, the board has not announced a specific timetable for finding a replacement.

The Tafel was founded in 1981 and served nearly 65,000 people every week. Headquartered in Austin, the nonprofit serves 21 counties in the region.
