Austin, Texas – The Central Texas Food Bank needs volunteers to help with the mass distribution of food this month.
In South Austin, dozens of volunteers were ready to take care of the food distribution on Kipp School’s south campus.
“It’s a great day,” said Michelle Lorino, a volunteer.
Volunteers distributed free food to those in trouble due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It means a lot to me to help others AND to be out here early in the morning giving back to help others. I was raised to help other people no matter what, and people help you too, so it is great thing, ”said Lorino.
Those who stopped simply opened their trunk and were given a box of food. An event that shouldn’t be a contact to keep everyone safe, especially since Travis County entered Phase 5.
Almost 200 families were served at this event, and many more are planned for the month of August. The next distribution is scheduled for Thursday, August 19 at Nelson Field, 7105 Berkman Dr, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Anyone who wants to volunteer to support the Food Bank at this critical time should visit the Food Bank’s website, centraltexasfoodbank.org, and click on “Voluntary” to register.
“I think the need for such services is greater than ever,” says Hannah Wingler, a volunteer.
