We don’t normally associate good health with high-speed driving, but the Austin Hatcher Foundation is questioning that with their bespoke Ford Mustang Mach-E showcasing at SEMA 2021.
The Austin Hatcher Foundation “offers children with cancer and their families through its four main departments at no cost to the families,” according to its website. These departments include psycho-oncology, diversion therapy, healthy lifestyle education, and especially industrial art therapy.
This industrial arts program spends some of its energy doing cars. In March of this year, the foundation announced the Keiki Cobra project, a Factory Five MK4 Roadster, partly built by cancer patients and their families.
Somehow they outdo themselves with this latest need for speed building. At its core, it’s a Mustang Mach-E GT. It puts out 480 horsepower and 638 lb-ft of torque before sending that power to all four tires.
Unlike the stock car, however, this one has some custom tweaks. First, it has a custom front splitter and carbon fiber rear spoiler to keep it on the ground. Then it has 20 inch rotiform wheels.
Of course, these are not the most important changes. That comes in the form of the speed limiter. The stock Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is limited to just 130 mph (209 km / h). The Austin Hatcher Foundation Mach-E GT has no limiters.
They want to use that too. Once the SEMA show is over, hard work is being done to prepare it for Bonneville Speed Week 2022. Your goal is 200 mph (322 km / h).
That would be faster than any factory-built Mustang Mach-E up to this point. Of course, it would also be technically faster than any Tesla, but when the competition is over, Elon could have the 200 mph + update and the parts for the Model S plaid ready.
Anyway, we can’t help but cheer the people at the Austin Hatcher Foundation. They found a nice way to combine speed and health and we salute them for that.
