Georgetown City Council on October 12th approved order-to-order funding to begin designing Phase 3 of the San Gabriel Park Plan.

Kimberly Garrett, the Georgetown City Park and Recreation Director, said the approval will grant the Austin RVi planning and landscape architecture firm funding to prepare schematic design studies for portions of landscape components for Phase 3.

Highlights of the plan include a large multi-purpose performance pavilion, splash pad space, skate park, and food truck area.

The council approved $ 651,169 of planning with an estimated cost of $ 4.6 million for improvements to San Gabriel Park Phase 3.

Another planned facility is to replace the elevated pedestrian bridge along the North San Gabriel Hike and Bike Trail with a low-water bridge that resembles other bridges along the way.

According to the Georgetown Parks website, the San Gabriel Park master plan was finalized in 2015 to serve as a framework for the future design, development, and maintenance of the park, which is a meeting place of cultural importance. Funding for the San Gabriel Park improvements was decided and approved in 2008 through a park loan from Georgetown voters.

The San Gabriel Park Phase 3 plan should break ground in 2023 pending funding, Garrett said.
