Yes, it is your food news buffet for the fourth week of October, the second year of this lousy plague.

The Hot Luck Fest has announced dates for its return in 2022.

Of course, lots of Halloween celebrations are planned for our budding castle, but we’re particularly enchanted by the audacity (and culinary potential) of Devil May Care’s surreal ball coming up next week …

We see that Texas Monthly published this year’s Top 50 BBQ Joints list and that Austin has three in the top 10: Interstellar BBQ (No. 2), LeRoy and Lewis (No. 5), and Franklin Barbecue (No. 7). Distant Relatives, la Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meats and Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ also made the list – while J. Leonardi’s, Moreno Barbecue, Stiles Switch and Whitfield’s were not included but received honorable mentions. Ah. We trust the Texas Monthly judges failed to try the pork loin at Stiles Switch, right? Because, come on …

Lift Collective has teamed up with Vins de Bordeaux for their Strong Women of Bordeaux campaign, which showcases the collective talent of the region’s winemakers and invites Austinites to Aviary Wine & Kitchen (2110 S. Mmmmm … these long table dinners in the Visconti Ristorante of the Hotel Granduca are as delicious as they are elegant

Speaking of wine, you know that classic refreshment is the main drink at the Long Table Dinners in the Visconti Ristorante of the Hotel Granduca, right? This classy yet inviting place, nestled between trees directly on the Capital of Texas Highway, is the setting for these extraordinary celebrations – and tomorrow (Thu, 21st Napa Valley’s own Trinitas Cellars …

So what’s happening on East Anderson Lane? Something called Prep ATX: The largest commercial kitchen space in Texas, it says – with a variety of Austin’s leading food and beverage manufacturers, including restaurants, bakers, caterers, consumer goods, and food trucks. Tiny cakes. Chop chop. Bearded bakery company. SimpliThai. Taste of house dumplings. And yes, more. What if you have your own culinary start-up plans, Austinite? Think you should check out the place too …

The once locally popular Mangia Pizza, which was (presumably) saved from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2012 by an investment firm called CloudCap, is now closed, gone forever. Ah, sic transit gloria ‘zilla …

But, on the plus side: P. Terry’s Burger Stand has reopened its downtown location at 515 Congress. Such good news, yeah, but what are you going to do now, downtown dwellers? What will you do when you are roughly equidistant from Fr. Terry’s location and Fareground and Salt & Time? Sure and there are even more nouns surrounding this special skyscraper package of urbanity, and we are all so oppressed by the tyranny of choice, oh dear, oh Mi-er-y …

And some things just keep getting better. For example, how Easy Tiger is throwing a weekend party highlighting the collaboration between Brewing Co x Deschutes Brewery and a persistent Tiger-Tap takeover (Fri-Sun, October 22-24). This celebration of the art of brewing includes the release of three different beer collaborations, at all three Easy Tiger locations, with the brewers on site – and we think this weekend could permanently raise the bar for craft innovation, even in this foam-flooded city …

The Roosevelt Room – now on wheels!

We have enjoyed calling Cantaloupe Island cocktail delivery service in the past. Because they’re damn impressive and are a native Texan with the folks at The Austin Shaker (who can never be said enough good things about) and the company’s founder, Richard Thomas. So let’s refer back to them now, but just before we note: Holy shit! Justin Lavenue and Dennis Gobis from the Roosevelt Room have launched their very own cocktail bar on wheels! After six years of anticipation, the much-touted cocktail truck is ready to roll. RoadHaus Mobile Cocktails brings the world-class service and award-winning caliber of the Roosevelt Room to events of all sizes. Hell, they even made some impressive new creations especially for RoadHaus. For example: Matcha Business, with Citadelle Dry Gin, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, mint, matcha powder, absinthe, wildflower honey syrup and lime. Bottoms up, my great good friends …

And, ah, you’ve seen your current reporter’s latest roundup of your current reporter’s premium drinking bottles, right?

Finally, in a non-alcohol-centric, but possibly not 100% down-to-earth way, we’re conveying the news that RepresentUs is launching Gerry’s Partisan Pizza, a pizza shop that only serves residents of the new, heavily-renovated, 37th house in Texas, for this purpose to illustrate how partisan gerrymandering works. “This delicious activation occurs over a decade-long redistribution cycle,” continues the RepresentUs email, “where corrupt politicians prepare to slice up their districts for their political gain, no matter what voters want. This three-day pizza event is intended to prevent 188 million taxpayers from being stuck with unaccountable representatives for the next ten years. ”Note: This tasty spectacle takes place from Fri.-Sun., October 22-24, 5 pm-9pm in The Backspace (507 San Jacinto) instead …

Now eat as best you can, citizen; and tips like it’s going out of style; and keep an eye out for the lingering ‘ronas …
