How to celebrate Juneteenth in Central Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Festivals, parades and lots of fun are on the program on Saturday June 15th in Central Texas.
The Central Texas Juneteenth Parade and Festival will feature floats that parade through East Austin and a festival of entertainment and food in Rosewood Park.
The festival starts at noon and lasts until 5 p.m., followed by an evening of live music.

Juneteenth ATX has a full program of events, including an afternoon livestream shedding light on the story of the day and fireworks in the evening.
At the Round Rock Juneteenth Rhythm and Ribs Festival, visitors can expect good food and good music.
In the Old Settlers Park from 4 p.m. until late at night, DJ Jay Shalé, Eric Bellinger and Montell Jordan lead the musical line-up. Specialty and retail vendors will also attend the event.
Travis County is hosting two community events including a family park day at East Metro Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes fishing and swimming.

The county also offers young basketball players the chance to show off their skills at Rising Stars High School’s All-Star Games for boys and girls, where athletes compete in three-point shooting and slam-dunk competitions.
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration to mark the end of slavery in the United States.
The celebration falls on June 19, marking the day Texans were told that the Civil War was over and enslaved people were free.
