The 2021 recipient cohort includes four black startup founders from Austin.
AUSTIN, Texas – Four black-run startup companies in Austin will each receive $ 100,000 from Google through the company’s Google for Startups Black Founders Fund.
According to a press release from Google, the program awards a total of $ 5 million to startups in the United States that have black founders.
“There are amazing black startup founders in the US who build great companies but don’t have access to the funds that are critical to their success,” the press release said.
The fund will give select founders $ 100,000 in capital as well as Google Cloud credits, Google.org ad grants and additional support to help their businesses grow, Google said.
There are four black startup founders from Austin in the 2021 recipient cohort:
Riana Lynn from Journey Foods
Journey Foods is a portfolio intelligence and lifecycle management software for food development and innovation that helps to address and manage the entire lifecycle of products from idea to market.
Sterling Smith of Sandbox Commerce
Sandbox Commerce is a company that is essentially a native mobile app WordPress that enables businesses to have a “no-code” drag-and-drop solution for their app.
Janice Omadeke from the mentor method
The Mentor Method uses software to help companies cost-effectively match talent with mentors within their organization.
Mbiyimoh Ghogomu from Tradeblock
Tradeblock aims to provide people with an easy and safe way to trade sneakers online.
Six other startups founded by Black in Dallas, Houston and Frisco, Texas also received support from Google.
