Men charged with reckless homicide, street racing in crash that killed Judson students

Two men were driving on Route 31 just before the April crash that killed two Judson University students whose cars were hit near the entrance to the Elgin campus, authorities said Thursday.
Trevon D. Morris, 21, of the 400 block of Stella Avenue in Elgin and Kahleel L. Steele, 22, of the 0-100 block of Austin Avenue in Carpentersville, are charged with ruthless homicide and harsh street racing, both crimes, Kane This was announced by the district authorities.
A third person, Manny L. Pittenturf, 23, 300 blocks from Tee Lane, Carpentersville, was charged with negligent speeding in connection with the accident. He was behind Morris and Steele when the accident happened.
The Kane County authorities charged the case on May 14. Pittenturf surrendered to Elgin, Moore Police on May 19th on May 25th. The police are looking for Steele.
Dallas Colburn, 22, from Plano and Nathanael Madison, 22, from Pennsylvania died in the April 20 crash. Two other students were injured in their car.
The crash occurred at 9:15 p.m. at one of the university entrances. The 2004 Pontiac with the four Judson students, driven by a 23-year-old Michigan man, was turning south on Judson Drive from Route 31 when it was struck by the Hyundai, driven by Moore in 2013, parted the authorities with.
Moore and Steele – who drove a 2011 Jeep – headed north on Route 31 north of Big Timber Road. Authorities said they were racing at the time of the crash.
The speed limit stated there is 45 mph, but it exceeded 35 mph at that time, according to a press release from the Kane County State Attorney’s Office.

“Judson University is saddened to learn more about the tragic event that killed two students in April,” said Mary Dulabaum, Judson’s director of marketing and communications, in an email to the Daily Herald Thursday morning. “At this point in time, our thoughts and prayers are for all families affected by this tragic event.”
In addition to street racing and ruthless homicide charges, Morris has been charged with grossly driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance that resulted in death and major DUI without a license, both crimes. Authorities claim he had illegal levels of THC in his blood at the time of the crash.
Morris is also charged with speeding and driving without a license, which was never issued. The bail was set at $ 100,000. If he is released on bail, he will be placed on electronic home surveillance.
At the time of the crash, he was released on charges of possession of a controlled substance.
Pittenturf was also charged with driving without a valid driver’s license. At the time of the crash, he was released for possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
