Miss Austin Peay 2021 Noelle Thompson was selected to represent the state of Tennessee at the National Sweetheart Pageant in Hoopeston, Illinois from September 1-5. The National Sweetheart Pageant invites a girl from each state who has placed in the top 5 of her state competitions in either the Miss Volunteer America or Miss America competition system to compete for the title of National Sweetheart.
Noelle was selected after finishing second in the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant in June. At least nine former Miss Americas held the Miss National Sweetheart title in the year prior to winning the Miss America title.
Noelle competed with women from 27 other states in the categories interview, lifestyle and fitness in a swimsuit, talent and evening dress with a stage question. She was awarded the overall swimsuit, overall rating and outstanding charitable awards. In addition, each participant represented their home state in costume in the States Parade. Noelle took first, second place in the overall standings behind Miss Oklahoma Sweetheart.
