New Albert Hotel targets summer 2022 opening

New Waterloo, an independent hospitality development, design and management company, announced its newest project, the Albert Hotel, which is under construction on 242 East Main Street and slated for a summer opening next year.

The Albert Hotel is a historical monument with four buildings from the late 19th century and a newly built hotel with event, spa and restaurant areas.

The Albert Hotel is scheduled to open in late summer 2022 and is named after the architect, monument conservator and city dweller Albert Keidel, who shaped the city of Fredericksburg.

Albert’s great-grandfather, Dr. Wilhelm Keidel, came to Fredericksburg in 1847, the year after the city was founded, as a city doctor and judge. His father, Victor Keidel, was a doctor and pharmacist, famous for riding his palomino at the head of the Centennial Parade.

The hotel is located on the site where the Keidel family’s pharmacy and homestead will remain, both of which will be integrated into the new site plan.

Albert Keidel created a style that went beyond aesthetics and gave Fredericksburg’s homes and bourgeois buildings a language with a look, feel, feel and smell embedded in a sense of place.

Known to developers as “the heart of the Hill Country,” Fredericksburg is the best-preserved historic town in the area, known to visitors for its wineries, farm-to-table restaurants, antique shops, and the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

The area encompasses and preserves the history of early settlers and is now the second largest wine destination in the United States after Napa Valley, said Chief Development Officer and Partner Patrick Jeffers.

“New Waterloo has worked with the Keidel family to create a vision that will transform their original family homestead into a unique hospitality destination,” said Jeffers. “The historical significance, beauty and character of the existing buildings, as well as their location in the golden blocks of the city, capture the soul of the Hill Country.”

The site

The Albert Hotel is located on two acres stretching from 242 to 248 East Main Street, with its own two-story parking garage with 160 parking spaces directly across from East Austin Street.

The hotel will have 110 guest rooms, including bedrooms, suites and a private home, each with bespoke amenities and custom-made furniture.

The property has three restaurants, two bars, a private dining room and will offer in-room dining.

The grounds include an outdoor pool, fitness center, and 2,000 square foot full-service spa.

Events will be held on the property, with 3,600 square feet of event space and a 1,200 square foot mezzanine and event lawn.

The property, designed by the Clayton Korte architects in collaboration with New Waterloo, will integrate the new building into the four original historic buildings.

The new build uses wood, limestone, stone and steel to create a natural palette for its more contemporary shape that is both differentiated and compatible with the original buildings.

Word & Carr’s landscape architecture includes native Texan grasses and trees, such as live oaks and mesquites, along with reclaimed and reused materials from the site to create meandering gardens and pathways throughout the property.

“The hotel environment is a push-pull of masculine and feminine, historical and new,” says design director Melanie Raines. “The architecture of the Albert Hotel is reminiscent of Fredericksburg’s future, while the interior design reflects the softer side of Albert’s global sensibility. The material-oriented, multi-layered and eclectic design is warm and unfussy, with unexpected discoveries. “
